Ruma Toru Assembly Term  2

Today was a wonderful day for practising our soccer skills.

Mr Sutherland was the old caretaker who used to work at  Hokowhitu school.  He made us a new shoe shelf.  We made him a Thank You card.

We made some rock cakes that looked like the surface of the moon.  They were delicious.

We are learning to read sight words.  Cooper is parking the car on the word that is read out loud.

Here are Elijah and Nikita looking and listening to each other.  They are wonderful talking partners.

We are learning the difference between letters and words and sentences.  We are making our sentences make sense.

We are learning that the sun doesn't go away.  Planet Earth orbits the sun and spins around at the same time!

Using Stamps, Stickers and fancy scissors to help with our fine motor skills.

We are learning about some natural forces of planet Earth - Here we are looking at how volcanoes change the way Earth looks.

Making our Sun.  The biggest Star.

We are learning patterns to 10.  The boys move the plates to see if their friends can say the matching equation.

Nikita made a gorgeous cookie to eat with chocolate chips.

Play-based learning is given the children a chance to share lots of rich language.  Today children were talking about 'snipers' and 'defeat', when playing with armies.

Miss Cousin's walked in to find Charlie and Nikita ordering numbers during a wet lunch time.

We are learning to skip count in 2's.

The Wheel of Awesomeness

Ruma Toru were the best class in the school assembly on Monday morning.  They listened and kept their hands and feet to themselves.  Mr Bradnock noticed this and invited Caidyn up to spin the 'Wheel of Awesomeness'.  It landed on 20.  Ruma Toru got 20 extra minutes of play time after lunch on Tuesday for being so AWESOME!!  Great Spin Caidyn.

Buddy Bench

We have been learning about belonging.  We decided to make a buddy bench for anyone who is lonely.  If we see someone sitting there, we will ask them to play or go up and talk with them.

Kia Ora Whānau

If you are having a clean out of your child's toys anytime this year, we would love to have some new toys/games/equipment/resources for our tamariki to explore. We do not need anymore soft toys but things like lego, board games, dollies, cooking toys, plastic food, cars, trains, tools, shops or books. Things that our tamariki can manipulate with their hands and things that trigger their imagination. A lot of the things you see in the classrooms have been gathered from op shops so they do not need to be new just as long as they have a little bit of life left in them. If you do have anything to donate please bring it to school and pass on to your teacher.
Thank you from the Tararua 1 teachers :)

P is for Penguin.

Click on the link above to see the book we made about penguins.  We are learning to draw step-by-step.  Show your penguin to your parents and tell them what you called him/her.

We are learning to Get Along in Discovery Time.

We are learning to say,  read and write alphabet sounds.

What do numbers look like?

The children were given a number.  They took photos of objects around the room to match the number.
